I am currently brainstorming and exploring some questions about the challenges we face in implementing new computing curriculum relating to teacher professional development. Some of the questions I am thinking about include:
These are just some of the many questions bouncing around in my head and I know that there are groups, such as state ICT leadership and those in organisations, such as Google also exploring similar topics!
Not to mention there are a range of other topics to be unpacked, such as assessment, pedagogy, learning activities among others.
I would love to hear the challenges that you face in your context and if/how your community is going about to support teachers with new computing curriculum. Email me at rebecca(dot)vivian(at)adelaide.edu.au if you would be happy sharing with me!
- What is the best way to teach teachers? Do MOOCs have a role? What is good MOOC-PD design?
- How can we scale PD and increase engagement and support across Australia?
- What are individuals or groups already doing in terms of PD and how can we make these practices more visible?
- How can we collectively prepare F-10 digital technologies resources?
- What is the required balance between discipline knowledge, skills and pedagogy to prepare teachers?
- What PD approach has the best impact on learners?
- Can we design PD to encourage teacher confidence and creativity and also the creativity of their students?
- What are organisations and other nations doing in other locations to support teachers with computing curriculum implementation?
- Does PD have any impact (and long-term impact) on classroom learning & teaching and teacher confidence?
- How do we assess and monitor outcomes from engaging in PD?
- What do teachers want and need to support them in implementing curriculum?
- What role do social media and online communities play in teacher PD and curriculum implementation?
- How can we make teacher PD sustainable and ongoing and supportive for teachers?
- How can we prepare teachers who engage in PD to pass on their knowledge and skills with colleagues effectively
- How can institutions, organisations, groups, and individuals work together more effectively to address the challenge of curriculum implementation?
